With them now having a Pioneer CDJ-2000 page on Facebook, there are lots of demonstration videos emerging, including some of James Zabelia demonstrating the CDJ as a midi controller through Ableton. It is on his profile on YouTube: James Zabelia YouTube – clearly even he is impressed (whooping)… I suspect that he had more than a little to do with the development of the CDJ 1000 MK3’s successor from the fact that he was the first person that Pioneer published talking about it.

Pictures and videos from the Amsterdam launch party have been put up on YouTube. I am not so sure about the DJ’s giving their opinions, but Laidback Luke has a nice play at the end of the video.

Pioneer Announces The CDJ2000 – CDJ1000 MK4

New Pioneer CDJ 2000

New Pioneer CDJ 2000
Pioneer have finally announced the CDJ2000 – the eagerly awaited replacement to the CDJ 1000 MK3. After a few weeks of teaser videos with DJ’s like James Zabelia, Swedish House Mafia and Roger Sanchez talking about how revolutionary it is… it actually is!!!
It looks to have new full LAN, USB, DVD, and SD Card support (as well as being able to play the existing MP3 and normal CD formats that it always did do). This means that all your tracks can be accessed from one hard disc or memory source over a mini network (an interesting single source of music idea) And with LAN support you may potentially be able to use some kind of VPN to a live music source?
Most interesting for me, is the mentioned support for the Tonium Pacemaker (Note that they say Pacemaker PRO) which if you read this blog – you will know that I own myself, as I need something very portable. I wonder if the “rekordbox” will be a feature of tonium’s new firmware/software update in “Early 2010″. It will mean that you can record your sets live to your pacemaker according to this Pioneer video (below). It looks that you could completely set-up a live-set before you arrive, good in many ways, but it kind of means that DJ-sets will be less spontaneous. Relating to this, it would be great to see one standard for mp3 audio dj’ing tools rather than the same old – import from itunes / sync itunes/ windows media player – maybe something that incorporates Traktor and Deckadance as well?
I absolutely love the new industry standard that they are trying to develop and wonder if the new Pacemaker update (Pacemaker Pro?) that they talk about in 2010 will be something that is a major update to the current pacemaker – or if it is a completely new product.
If you missed all of the preview videos I will put a quick link to them below:

CDJ2000 – Loop Cutter – Really trick – something that is quite hard to do & do right on the pacemaker

My thoughts on the other CDJ2000 Features
The full raised and angled colour screen will mean that being hunched over trying to see the displays will be a thing of the past, and it will also mean that you won’t get lights flashing so much on the display.
I can’t wait to see more about the “needle drop” functions that they mention – and whether you will be able to play with this to actually improve mixing, I.E. rather than rolling to a cue point, actually manually pick-up and drop back the “needle”?
According to the new page on Pioneer’s Website: CDJ 2000

Buying an EKS Otus in the UK
Buying an EKS Otus in the UK

The EKS Otus
I have previously written about considering the EKS Otus when looking to upgrade to digital mixing from traditional decks and vinyl. The best retail price you will get will be about £549 from Amazon.
I read some excellent reviews of the OTUS product and on YouTube saw a bundle of great video demonstrations, and to be honest, I think it looks like the best midi controller out there at the moment, but – I don’t want to be charging about carrying a laptop with Traktor or Deckadance about with me all the time. The EKS Otus looked like a blooming great option, and I may well get one once I get back and am a little more cash rich it certainly looks like the best product on the market at the moment.
The best prices that I came across when I was researching the midi controller were on Amazon, HTFR and ebay (best price I have seen is about £425), but the ebay retailers were the same prices but weren’t with as good a reputation.
It is well worth having a look at EKS’s Website and Otus Page: EKS and Otus Pages
Hope this helps you find an EKS Otus a bit quicker.

Numark Pro TT2 Decks & Gemini PS676i Mixer *SOLD*
Numark Pro TT2 Decks & Gemini PS676i Mixer *SOLD* – £150 ONO
2 x Numark Pro TT2 Turntables & Gemini PS676i Mixer (sampler on mixer)
Very Nearly New Stanton 500 Carts/needles.
Includes some custom slipmats that I had made that probably aren’t for everyone.
Just some good decks for mucking about at home. I have got a Pacemaker now, so am pretty much moving away from Vinyl for a bit.
Condition is very good, no problems as far as I am aware – I don’t use them a lot, as I tend to play on CDJ’s if I have a sound system set up or on a pacemaker for playing at. The decks come with covers to stop them getting covered in dust, but the hinges are missing – lost in the move or something.

My New Music/DJ Toy – Tonium Pacemaker
I decided a few weeks ago to buy a new toy as I was a little bored with the whole ipod thing. I was looking at getting an EKS Otus midi controller (I have now written a quick blog about the best place to find a EKS Otus in the UK: EKS Otud UK), but decided that it wasn’t portable enough for what I wanted, so having consulted my sisters fella, he recommended the Tonium Pacemaker to have a look at, and I ended up buying one a few weeks later.

Tonium Pacemaker
It has been really cool for the last few weeks, but… It is starting to really piss me off, as it seems to have taken to crashing every ten minutes, and basically not rebooting very easily at all.
I am now taking pictures of every time it crashes, and am going to have my Tonium pacemaker crash gallery on here and am going to send a link to them with pictures of each time it does it on GetSatisfaction and their user forum at Pacemaker.net
I am hoping they will help me resolve the issue as seemingly it was fine and then “developed” this problem when I was simply assigning a WAH effect to a tune. Irony of it all is, that I was showing it off to Simon – demonstrating how amazing it was when it happened… and it hasn’t worked properly since.

Cheap DJ Decks – What To Look For and Where To Buy
Cheap DJ Decks – What To Look For and Where To Buy
I thought that I would start to write a few posts about where to buy Cheap DJ Decks and CD Decks, as there were a number of people arriving at the site and landing on the tag, for a page that I had live when I was selling an old pair of decks.
I will update it over the coming weeks.
